Description: About all that remains of the once thriving community of Summerville is a small cemetery on a hill. Stones were placed in tow rows in 1967 and the ground releveled. There is a plaque depicting the story of Canada's first woman doctor and ardent suffragist and social reformer, Dr.Emily Howard Jennings Stowe, M.D., 1831-1903 in the cemetery which is near her birthplace. There is an identical plaque in front of Norwich & District Archives (Norwich Village). The Summerville Cemetery is located on Highway 59, 300 meters (1000 ft.) north of New Road in Norwich Township formerly South Norwich Township on Lot 7 Concession 10. The Wesleyan Methodist and the Episcopal Methodist Churches sat opposite each other at the main corner in Summerville, just south of the cemetery.
